At Hexagon Games events, we strive to create a safe and inclusive environment for all of our guests and staff. Protecting the safety and wellbeing of everyone at our events is a shared responsibility, and these policies apply to all attendees, volunteers, and staff.
Anti-Harassment Policy
Harassment of any kind, whether physical, verbal, or visual, will not be tolerated. Harassment is any unwanted or unwelcome behavior, words, or actions that threaten, humiliate, or harm another person. Not meaning to cause harm is not an excuse.
- Safety: Be respectful of others' physical space and boundaries. Do not assume someone is comfortable with you touching them. Inappropriate physical contact or unwanted sexual attention will not be tolerated.
- Respect: Offensive conduct will not be tolerated. This includes remarks or actions that demean or exclude someone based on gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, age, or religion, as well as deliberate misgendering, intimidation, and following or stalking. Disagreements that escalate into verbal or physical altercations are not allowed.
- Privacy: While we want to encourage attendees to make friends, please respect other people's privacy. If someone does not want to share personal information, such as a phone number, email address, or social media handle, respect their decision. Ask before taking photos or video of other attendees.
- Stop when asked: If another attendee or a staff member asks you to stop a behavior that violates this policy, stop immediately.
Harassment does not include the good-faith discussion, competition, and gameplay that are a natural part of gaming events. However, repeatedly singling someone out, being intentionally disruptive or combative, or making other players uncomfortable goes beyond competitiveness. Harassment is not limited to the examples in this policy.
Code of Conduct
In addition to these rules, we have a Code of Conduct describing the behavior we want to encourage.
- Inclusivity: There are a lot of games out there and many people who are new to tabletop gaming. Help new players learn how to play, be patient, and avoid gatekeeping our amazing hobby.
- Kindness: Be kind to other guests and staff. Feel free to compliment others on their gameplay, game collections, and gamer attire, and be positive in general. Try to include everyone in the group in the conversation.
- Sportsmanship: Play your own turn and let other people play theirs. Analyzing the game is welcome, but let other players try new strategies and learn by failing. Play fair and don't cheat. Whether you win or lose, thank the other players for the game. Try to keep the game moving, even if it means playing suboptimally, and be patient with others as they play.
- Rules: When rules disagreements arise, try to reach a decision everyone can agree on. The player or staff member teaching the game has the final say, even if you play the game differently. You can also ask event staff for help.
- Etiquette: Plan to arrive on time and stay for the entire event. If another player needs to leave in the middle of a game, please excuse them and continue playing, or ask event staff to take their place. Avoid distractions at the table, including phones.
- Care for the games: Treat games from our library and other players' collections with care. Keep food and drinks clear of components, and return every game complete.
- Drink responsibly: Many of our events are held at venues that serve alcohol. Know your limits. Being intoxicated is never an excuse for breaking these policies.
Reporting
If you are being harassed, see someone else being harassed, or have any other concern, here are some steps you can take:
- If you feel comfortable doing so, ask the person to stop.
- Tell a Hexagon Games staff member. Staff introduce themselves at the start of each event and are happy to step away from a game to talk privately. All staff members will have a Hexagon Games uniform.
- After an event, or if you would rather not raise it in person, email us at [email protected].
- If anyone is in immediate danger, call 911.
We will keep reports as confidential as we can, and we will not tolerate retaliation against anyone who makes a report in good faith. If your concern is about a Hexagon Games staff member or volunteer, you can report it to any other staff member or by email.
Enforcement
Hexagon Games may take the following actions to enforce these policies, depending on the severity of the behavior:
- A verbal warning.
- Moving an attendee to another table or asking them to sit out a game.
- Removal from the event, without refund of any entry fee.
- A ban from future Hexagon Games events and online spaces.
These steps do not have to be taken in order. Violations of the Anti-Harassment Policy may result in immediate removal without warning, and repeated violations will result in a ban. Event staff may remove any attendee whose behavior they feel compromises the safety or comfort of others.
Where These Policies Apply
- All Hexagon Games events, at any venue, including the time just before and after the event.
- Hexagon Games online spaces, including our Discord server and social media pages.
- Communication between attendees that grows out of our events, such as unwanted messages to someone you met at a game night.
Age requirements vary by venue and are listed with each event. Attendees under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. We may take photos at events for our website and social media; let a staff member know if you would rather not appear in them.
